Kaiju No. 8 Season 2, for people who watched Season 1 a while ago
Kaiju No. 8 had one of those first seasons that everyone enjoyed and then quietly forgot the details of. If that is you, this is the two-minute version before you jump back in.

The Season 1 refresher
Three things carry over:
- Kafka Hibino is a 30-something cleanup worker who accidentally gains the ability to transform into a kaiju - the exact thing his job exists to kill.
- He joined the Defense Force anyway, hiding his transformation from almost everyone.
- His secret is no longer entirely secret, which is the pressure Season 2 runs on.
That is genuinely all you need.
What Season 2 is doing
- Bigger, more coordinated kaiju threats instead of one-off attacks.
- More screen time for the supporting squad - Kikoru, Reno and Hoshina all get real arcs.
- A shift from "will he be found out" to "what happens now that people know."
The show is still fundamentally an underdog workplace drama with monsters. That is why it works.
Is it a good entry point for newcomers?
Start at Season 1. It is twelve episodes, extremely easy to watch, and one of the friendliest modern shonen for people who do not normally watch anime - the protagonist is an adult with a job, not a teenager with a destiny.
