One Punch Man Season 3, after the longest gap in modern shonen
Few shows have made fans wait like this one. Season 3 exists, it is airing, and the conversation around it is mostly about one thing: how it looks.
The basics
- Studio: J.C.Staff, continuing from Season 2.
- Where to watch: Crunchyroll, weekly.
- Seasons 1 and 2 are both available in full.
What arc it covers
Season 3 moves into the Monster Association arc - the long, sprawling storyline the series has been building toward since Garou first appeared. In practice that means:
- Garou as a real antagonist, not a side thread.
- Ensemble fights. Large chunks of screen time go to the S-Class heroes rather than Saitama.
- Saitama used sparingly, which is the whole joke of the series and also its structural challenge.
The animation question, answered honestly
Season 1, animated by Madhouse, is still regarded as a high point for TV action animation. Season 2 was a noticeable step down for many viewers. Season 3 sits somewhere in between - stronger than Season 2, not attempting to recreate Season 1.
If you go in expecting Season 1 exactly, you will be disappointed. If you go in for the story, you will have a good time.
Do you need a rewatch?
Season 2 only, and mostly just the Garou material. Season 1 is fun to revisit but not required.
