Anime fan for 15 years. Covers shonen, seasonal previews, and the occasional deep dive.
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is unlike anything else in anime. Each part follows a different member of the Joestar bloodline across different eras, genres, and continents. It's weird, stylish, creative, and completely addictive once it clicks.
But with multiple parts spanning different decades and a production history that includes different studios, the watch order can be confusing. Here's the definitive guide.
The quick answer
Watch in part order: Phantom Blood → Battle Tendency → Stardust Crusaders → Diamond is Unbreakable → Golden Wind → Stone Ocean → Steel Ball Run (when available). That's it. JoJo has zero filler.
The complete JoJo watch order
| Part | Title | Episodes | Studio | When to watch |
|------|-------|----------|--------|---------------|
| Part 1 | Phantom Blood | 1–9 | David Production | Start here. Yes, it's slower — push through. |
| Part 2 | Battle Tendency | 10–26 | David Production | Immediately after Part 1. Same season. |
| Part 3 | Stardust Crusaders | 48 episodes | David Production | Introduces Stands. The journey to Egypt. |
| Part 4 | Diamond is Unbreakable | 39 episodes | David Production | Small-town mystery. Fan favourite. |
| Part 5 | Golden Wind | 39 episodes | David Production | Italian mafia. Peak JoJo animation. |
| Part 6 | Stone Ocean | 38 episodes | David Production | Netflix. Jolyne Cujoh's story. |
| Part 7 | Steel Ball Run | TBA | TBA (likely Netflix) | Not yet released as anime. Manga available. |
| Part 8 | JoJolion | TBA | TBA | Not yet released as anime. Manga available. |
Can I skip Part 1?
This is the most common JoJo question, and the answer is: please don't. Part 1 (Phantom Blood) is only 9 episodes and establishes the entire Joestar-Dio conflict that drives the series for decades. It's slower and more straightforward than later parts, but it's essential context.
Part 2 (Battle Tendency) is where most people fall in love with the series. If you're not hooked after Joseph Joestar's first battle, JoJo might not be for you — but give it until episode 10 at minimum.
What are Stands?
Stands are the power system introduced in Part 3. They're psychic manifestations with unique abilities — think of them as supernatural companions that fight for their users. Every Stand is different, which is what makes JoJo battles so creative and unpredictable. You don't need to understand them before Part 3; the series introduces them naturally.
The JoJo movies and spin-offs
Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan — A spin-off OVA series following the manga artist from Part 4. Watch after Diamond is Unbreakable. It's excellent and on Netflix.
The live-action Diamond is Unbreakable movie (2017) — It exists. Fans have mixed feelings. Watch it if you're curious after finishing Part 4.
Where to watch JoJo
- Crunchyroll — Parts 1–5 (subbed and dubbed)
- Netflix — Part 6 (Stone Ocean), Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan
- Hulu — Parts 1–4 (US)
How long will this take?
| Route | Episodes | Time |
|-------|----------|------|
| Parts 1–6 (full anime) | 190 episodes | ~79 hours |
| Parts 1–5 only | 152 episodes | ~63 hours |
JoJo has zero filler. Every episode counts. The pacing is excellent throughout.
Frequently asked questions
Is JoJo's Bizarre Adventure really that weird?
Yes, and that's the point. JoJo leans into absurdity with confidence. Poses, fashion, musical references, and increasingly creative battles. If you want something genuinely unique, this is it.
Why do people say "you need to get past Part 1"?
Part 1 has a more traditional shonen feel — straightforward hero vs villain. Part 2 introduces Joseph Joestar's trickster personality, and Part 3 introduces Stands, which completely reinvent the series. Each part feels like a different anime.
Is Stone Ocean (Part 6) good?
It's divisive among fans. The Netflix release format (batch drops) hurt community engagement, but the story itself has the most consequential ending in JoJo history. Watch it.
When will Steel Ball Run be animated?
No official announcement yet as of early 2026, but it's widely expected. Steel Ball Run is considered the best JoJo part by manga readers and a masterpiece of the medium.
