Winter 2026 is in the books. Here's how everything stacked up now that the dust has settled.
The final rankings
1. Solo Leveling Season 2 (first cour)
A-1 Pictures continued to deliver movie-quality animation for Jinwoo's journey. The Red Gate arc and the setup for Jeju Island kept the hype at maximum. The best action anime of the season by a wide margin.
2. Dandadan
Science SARU proved they could handle a long-running action series. The comedy, the heart, and the insane fight choreography made Dandadan the most consistently entertaining show of the season. Okarun and Momo's dynamic is anime couple-of-the-year material.
3. Blue Lock Season 2
The U-20 match delivered everything fans wanted: impossible plays, ego-driven character moments, and Isagi's continued evolution. 8bit's animation stepped up significantly from Season 1.
4. Apothecary Diaries Season 2
Maomao's medical mysteries in the imperial court continued to be utterly charming. TOHO Animation Studios' production quality remained excellent, and the deeper political intrigue elevated the series.
5. Sakamoto Days
The assassin-turned-convenience-store-owner delivered stylish action comedy. TMS Entertainment's animation brought the manga's dynamic fight choreography to life.
Solid mid-tier
6. Dr. Stone: Science Future
The final arc of Senku's journey to rebuild civilisation. Satisfying conclusion to one of shonen's most unique premises.
7. Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun Season 2
Lerche's adaptation of the supernatural school manga continued with its signature blend of comedy, horror, and gorgeous art direction.
8. UniteUp! Season 2
Idol series that surprised everyone with genuine character depth and catchy music.
Disappointments
Unnamed sequel that didn't deliver
Every season has one — a sequel that doesn't match its predecessor. Winter 2026's was a reminder that returning staff doesn't guarantee returning quality.
The season in summary
Winter 2026 was carried by its heavy hitters. Solo Leveling and Dandadan were consistent week-to-week events, and the mid-tier shows were enjoyable if not groundbreaking. A solid season overall.
